Becky Harlan. Photographer Hiram Maristany first picked up a camera as a teenager in at the urging of a social worker named Dan Murrow. He used it to document his world in El Barrio — or East Harlem — a close and vibrant Puerto Rican community that regularly dealt with poverty and violence.
For many of us, summer also brings with it a family photo session! Flowers are blooming, the sun is shining, the grass is green, and our skin takes on a healthy glow… a perfect time of year for taking pictures! And oftentimes we ladies are starting to think about our holiday cards already, too. And if mama is sweating bullets, she is not going to be looking good in any pictures. I loved how comfortable the shots seemed, and I felt like the style of the shoot really captured the closeness of that adorable family.
